Why Wearing Red Color is Not Haram For a Muslim With 4 Proofs
C.J Ahmed-02.05.2023
Wearing the color red is often disliked or at times prohibited by some Muslims due to the prevalent misunderstanding in the community. Th prohibition of wearing red was only for Ali (rali) and not others.
Narrated 'Ali (rali)
“Allah's Messenger (sal) forbade wearing of silk and clothes dyed with safflower (a red dye).” (Sahih Muslim)
It was narrated that 'Ali said:
"The Messenger of Allah [sal] forbade me- but I do not say that he forbade you- from wearing rings of gold, and from wearing Al-Qassi, and from wearing Al-Mufaddam (garments dyed deep red) and Al-Mu'asfar (garments dyed with safflower), and from reciting Qur'an while bowing."(Nasai and Imam Nasai Graded it Sahih- Sunan an-Nasa'i 5173)
The prohibition of wearing red with safflower was forbidden only to li (rali). It should be noted that Ali (rali) was only forbidden the use of safflower was and not the color red itself. The safflower plant can be used to make both red and yellow dyes and stating from these hadiths that red color is haram is shear ignorance in the matn (text) of the hadith.
