Is it Haram to Buy Stolen Goods in Islam?
C.J Ahmed-20.05.2023
It is generally haram to buy goods which are stolen if you are fully aware that it is stolen. Allah(swt) says in the Quran,
“But do not help one another in sin and transgression”(Al- Quran-5:2)
If you are doubtful, then there is nothing wrong in buying that good.
"The Prophet (sal) said, “Verily Allah has obligated the obligations – so do not neglect them. And He has limited the limits – so do not transgress them. And His silence about things is from His mercy, not forgetfulness, so do not investigate them.”
(Hasan Sahih-Ad-Darqutni No. 4/199 and also Al-Baihaqi No. 10/122).
The above hadith is clear on why eating raw steak is halal and why we are forbidden from investigating from things which has come as a mercy from Allah (swt) by him being silent. The above proofs are sufficient to prove that eating steak is not haram in Islam. If you ae doubtful that the meat f the steak can be haram, you can simply mention Allah’s name and eat it. It is that simple.
Aisha (rali) narrated, “A group of people said to the Prophet(sal),
“Some people bring us meat and we do not know whether they mentioned Allah’s name or not upon it (i.e. when slaughtering it)?” So he (sal) replied, “Mention Allah’s name on it and eat.” The people who were being referred to had embraced Islam recently,” (Al-Bukhari)
Necessity Dictates Exceptions
Under necessity, buying stolen goods is halal. Allah(swt) says,
"He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful." (Al-Quran 2:178)
He has only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and any (food) over which the name of other than Allah has been invoked. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."
(Al Quran-16:115)
Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked the name of other than Allah
(Al Quran-5:3)
"Narrated Anas (Rali):
The Prophet (sal) allowed `Abdur-Rahman bin `Auf and Az-Zubair bin Al-`Awwam to wear silk because they were suffering from an itch" .
(Sahih Al Bukhari)
In this hadith, the prophet(Sal) allowed Abdur Rahman bin auf and Zubair bin Awwam to wear silk because they had an itch. Generally wearing silk is haram for men lrge amounts but the prophet (Sal) allowed silk for the two sahabah due to a reason.
