Is it Haram in Islam to Bite Your Lips?
C.J Ahmed-19.05.2023
Biting the lips especially a part of it is an expression that is associated with a sexual suggestion and for something to be forbidden, there needs to be proofs establishing it either from the Quran or the authentic hadiths. As far as the Quran or the authentic hadiths are concerned, no evidence exist to suggest that biting the lips is haram. Biting the lips even if it is sexual is not haram in Islam because Islam is silent on this issue.
The Prophet (sal) said, “Verily Allah has obligated the obligations – so do not neglect them. And He has limited the limits – so do not transgress them. And His silence about things is from His mercy, not forgetfulness, so do not investigate them.”
(Hasan sahih-Ad-Darqutni No. 4/199 and Al-Baihaqi No. 10/122 and also graded Sahih by Sheikh Albani)
Those who ar against people biting their lips should understand that even the prophet (sal) kissed his daughter.
A'isha, the Umm al-Mu'minin, said, "I did not see anyone who more resembled the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in manner of speaking than Fatima. When she came to him, he stood up for her, made her welcome, kissed her and had her sit in his place. When the Prophet came to her, she stood up for him, took his hand, made him welcome, kissed him, and made him sit in her place. She came to him during his final illness and he greeted her and kissed her."(Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 971-Graded Sahih by Albani)
And even Abu Bakr (rali) kissed the prophet (sal) in his forehead.
Narrated by Ibn Abbas and Aisha (rali),
“Abu Bakr (rali) kissed the forehead of the prophet (sal)” (Bukhari-5709 and 5712)
Nowadays if a man kisses another man’s forehead people start thinking awkwardly and will even make jokes or insult them by calling them gay. The problem is with the society and not with the Quran or the authentic hadiths.
Biting the lips, be it for sexual attraction or otherwise is not haram in Islam because Islam is silent on this.
